Golden Grain Belt Beer Stained Glass

Object/Artifact

Golden Grain Belt. Minneapolis Brewing Company, Minneapolis, MN.

Golden Grain Belt Beer was brewed by the Minneapolis Brewing Company, which was active from 1893 to 1967. The Minneapolis Brewing Company was formed when Germania Brewing Association, Heinrich Brewing Association, F. D. Norenberg, and John Orth Brewing Company merged to better their chances of success in an increasingly competitive market. After the merger, the first beer that was produced by Minneapolis Brewing Company was Golden Grain Belt Beer. This beer became very popular in the region, allowing Minneapolis Brewing Company to grow greatly. Prior to Prohibition, the company owned approximately one-third of the saloons in Minneapolis and had saloons ranging from Michigan to Montana. This stained-glass window was made in the 1890s by an unknown artist and was allegedly on display in a Minneapolis Brewing Company tied house. While other variations of Grain Belt stained-glass do exist, this is the only known stained-glass window in this style.
