To remain in production during Prohibition, the Pittsburgh Brewing Company opened a subsidiary, Tech Food Products Company, that would produce products other than beer. The name “Tech” originated from the popular Tech beverages, such as near beer and cereal beverages, that were also produced during Prohibition. Tech Food Products Company was famous in Pittsburgh for their wide range of ice cream products, such as the pints advertised in this artwork. This piece is a mock-up of an advertisement that likely would have been run in a newspaper. One can see that it is a mock-up due to the faint white sketch lines surrounding the lettering, the hand-painted border and letters, and the pasted Tech Ice Cream pint. Pittsburgh Brewing Company continued production with Tech Food Products Company until 1945, when it was bought by Borden Dairy Company.
